Happy Sunday! Tomorrow is 8th of February and it will be the first anniversary for this blog. Thanks god after 1 year this blog is still a live.
I’ve learned more last year about websites, blogs and internet. Lots of what I’ve learned through my mistake (try and error) and learned other people’s mistakes.
Lots of people ask about what it takes to write a successful blog. For me, making early mistakes and learn from them because experience is the best teacher.
Nothing is perfect – Perfectionism will only hold you back. Slowly move on till you feel it is perfect and don’t think to get everything perfect at first place and start writing on a blog.
Yes, believe or not I’m not perfect though I’m trying to get perfect. With 2009 being my first year of blogging I have mistakes along the way.
By giving you look at my mistakes hopefully you can avoid doing the same. Here is my list of mistakes that I’ve done in first year of blogging.
Not posting regularly
I don’t make any schedule when to publish articles. Because I feel – “this is my blog, it’s up to me when I should publish a post”.
Boy, it’s totally wrong. We’re blogging to provide information for people. People waiting for our articles. If we keep silent for 1 week without any articles, people will go away and forget our blog. Unless you’re blog for yourself and never thinking about the blogging potential you may do so.
Time to time, I try to publish posts regularly but sometimes, it’s time consuming due to my status as a student, busy with lots of assignments, exams and etc. But I will keep improve myself in terms of article publishing.
Apologizing for not writing
I used to apologize when I’m not writing but then I realize who is actually care about that? Nobody.
Yes, nobody actually care what you’re doing because you’re nobody. It’s different story if you’re a celebrity. Either you create a posting schedule and stick with it or decide to write when you feel like it and do that. But don’t spend the first sentence or paragraph apologizing for not writing in days. No one cares all that much. Just write the post. Just write and write.
Subscribe to all newsletter that I found
When I started blogging, I want to gain as much knowledge as I can especially on blogging and make money online. But it’s just wasting my time and get me overloaded with the information. Hence I don’t know what should I focus on. But now I have only 3 newsletters that I subscribe. I don’t want my inbox full with promotions and information that will kill me off.
Writing like lectures
You can read my early articles that I posted here. When I read them back, I laughed at myself because I wrote like a person who gave a lecture. Who want to read a one-way lecture? I want people involve in a discussion. I was killing blog conversation at the beginning.
Changing Blog Themes Frequently
I don’t think this is my biggest mistake though it’s wasting my times a lot. I do what I love to do till I found this current layout will be long lasting theme for me. (hope so). In order to remind you not wasting your time changing your theme but focus on creating good articles, I need to write this.
Finding a good theme that suit your blog is a crucial thing. You may find a free theme or premium theme. If money isn’t your problem than you should go for premium one. Since premium theme have many great themes that will make your blog stand out. They also have support for the themes.
What blogs mistakes that have you made?
If you’re a blogger feel free to share with me your own mistakes. Or if you’re not a blogger, you still can share your mistakes too!

My biggest mistake was that i chose too broad niche which directly kill my blog.
You’ve developed a nice easy conversational writing style that keeps me keep coming back here. Keep it going for many more anniversaries to come.
Thanks Selurus. I’ll keep rockin’ this blog!
In my initial blogging stage, i was changing my blog theme every 2nd day. That was my first mistake in my blogging career.
Choosing a great theme is a crucial thing in blogging besides building traffic.
I am changing my theme frequently but sometimes that I think I need a fresh mind or new year time. Thanks
Same goes to me. Never satisfied with what I had..
haha, first year mistake.. i almost did every single of it.. past few month my updating rate is low.. but i think everything is back to normal pace.. i guess.. i do keep say sorry if not updating.. and i fell kinda stupid too.. so instead say sorry.. i just mention why,, but i think i shouldn’t too.. and change theme.. that is my biggest weaknesses, i love new design.. and always want to change.. still can’t find the cure though
We’re on the same boat
Hi Fazreen how are you. I have come back to my blog again. My biggest mistake is happening that I am not able to posting on my blog since a long time.
Suites me well too
i started taking steps to correct them.. Cheers !
Enjoyed your article and wrote you an Alexa review. I couldn’t agree more that people shouldn’t apologize between blog articles if they have an absence. I did it once or twice myself when I started almost two years ago.
Dragon,
thanks for the review..I’ll hit you back..by the way, what is your real name?
