How to do Business At Singapore

August 25, 2009 · 10 comments

Singapore officially the Republic of Singapore is an island city located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. As a Malaysian, I always heard about Singapore. Singapore is just located beside my country which is Malaysia.

How to make money at Singapore? As a developed nation, Singapore has a lot of business opportunities. These opportunities can be grabbed by anybody. The history had convinced me that Singapore is a good venue to do business. Its location is so strategic. As I mentioned earlier, Singapore is a developed nation, so no wonder people choose Singapore as a place to do business.

In order to do business in Singapore, you must have a visa. Singapore provides variety types of Visa. The following are the main types of Visa/work permit that provided by Singapore.

  • Personalized Employment Pass
  • S Pass
  • Entrepreneur Pass
  • Employment Pass

As I know, all the work permits above except ‘S Pass’ come under a quota system.

The work permit will be approved based on the merits of the applicant and not external factors

Let me explain a little bit each type of work permit

Personalized Employment Pass

This is a special type of Pass is not tied to a specific employer. The advantage of using this type of permit is you can switch jobs without re-applying for a new employment pass provided that you are not unemployed for more than six months.

S Pass

This type of work permit is for mid-skilled employees who earn a salary at least $1800.

Entrepreneur Pass

Also known as EntrePass is a variation of Employment Pass. That’s mean, applicant can apply for this work permit if they are not qualify under Employment Pass category due to the lack of education qualification.

Employment Pass

This is the main type of work permit. To apply for this work permit, you must have salary more than $2500 and a degree from a reputable university.

Besides these four types of work permit, there are another type of work permit available in Singapore :

  • Miscellaneous Work Pass
  • Training Employment Pass
  • Multiple Journey Business Visa
  • Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate

Of course, wherever you want to do business you must have a work permit. Same goes to Singapore. So, start searching your business opportunity in Singapore and apply for work permit. Good Luck!
