How to Get Massive Traffic Using A Social Media

July 21, 2009 · 12 comments

Recently I was experimenting with social media network. I want to know which is the best for me to bring traffic to my blog. I concentrate on Digg, Stumbleupon, Facebook and Twitter. Well, we need to make a lot of experiment in blogging field in order to see the result.

I call my experiment as a ‘traffic hunting’. Before this I don’t use the social media network to promote my blog because I’m not a fan of it. But then, I realized, social media is a great way to promote our blog, business and anything you want to promote. besides that, it was fun to use a social media especially Facebook and Twitter because we can get a lot of friends. It is good to build networking among us.

Firstly, I try hunting for traffic from Digg site. As a blogger, I agree that Digg is a good source of traffic.

Digg is a community-based popularity website that combines social bookmarking, blogging, and syndication as the main attractions

If you are not sign up for Digg yet you better do now. I repeat now because you maybe get more traffic after you do it. :)

Here some tips to build digg culture in yourself.

  1. Firslty, you MUST sign up for Digg account. If you don’t have Digg account, how can you submit your blog post?
  2. After create an account, start submitting your blog post. You can post anything you want since there is no elimination for topics but you must have etiquettes. Make sure you read their rules. Just to make sure are not against the rules.
  3. As my observation. technology news and celebrity news have more attention from readers. They usually appear at Digg home page. You can subscribe feed news from technology sites to get information earlier than your competitor. Or you can summary the tech news and link to its original post because the old post did well than fresh one.
  4. Write an unique content. If you are creative enough, write something that is unique. People don’t want to read what they already know. Unique article usually spread fast. people love to spread those unique article naturally.
  5. Catchy titles usually do better than dull titles. Use hype description but don’t overdo because you will be considered as a spammer.
  6. Post that give benefit to readers usually do better like list post and how to. The way you write your post it is in your hand. (lets our finger dance on the keyboard)

So now you already know how to get traffic from Digg. How about stumble? Stumble is like Digg. I don’t fully explore it yet. You can use the tips above also to get traffic from stumbleupon. Don’t be afraid to experiment with it.

Twitter?

As you know twitter is leading the micro blogging applications nowadays. Twitter has grab attention of million internet users. So twitter is one of the choice to gain traffic. Twiiter is called micro blogging because it’s user can only use 140 characters per message.

Twitter is simply used by people to send a message. Sending a message using an email to the people is quite boring nowadays but by using twitter to send a message can attract others to take part in the conversation. Imagine you have 1000 followers an then you tweet something, it might get attention from your followers. It can raise curiosity to your followers.

In other word, twitter is a hang out spot. Can you see the point? You can hang out there with your friend. Discuss any topic you like with your followers and build your network. This where the traffic come. If you have big followers then you can drive them to your blog and they might be your loyal visitor.

How to optimize your twitter profile?

  1. Put your blog link in your profile like this
  1. Find people who have the same interest.
  2. Be active ! If you are passive nobody want to build network with you.

Don’t repeat my mistake. Before this I just follow everyone. I notice that when I follow people who do not have same interest as me, everytime I tweet a message only less followers notice that message. Now, I have to go one by one to check. I have to make sure my followers are valuable to me.

Now, my last technique(currently) to gain traffic is use Facebook.

What I did for this moment is, create fan page, get involve in blog group(be active) and find people who have same interest with me. I don’t track the result yet. Once I track the result I will let you know.

As I said earlier, those techniques is my experiment. Which one will bring more traffic I still don’t know. Besides these 4 social medias, there are another social media that I use but I pay more attention to these 4 first. If I find something that valuable to share with you, I will post it.  Stay tuned with me :)

I’ve been gone for the last five months with chemo treatment for cancer. It is surprising to see how quickly the social media has changed in the few months being gone. I’m trying to figure out where the action is.

With social media, the mantra that is being used by traffic pros is this – “be everywhere”. Facebook and Twitter sure are the big players, but joining sites such as LinkedIn and even Myspace or Plur can help bring in extra traffic.

“Be everywhere” speaks for itself :D

You need to apply some tweet arts. I always call both(twitter & facebook) as tweetbook..
