As I promise to lloydsbackyard, this post I wrote about how to optimize your wordpress blog. Search engine optimization is very important to us. The definition of Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the volume or quality of the traffic to a blog from search engine(google,yahoo,bling) via natural or organic search.
As a blogger and an internet entrepreneur, we should know how to deal with SEO. SEO consider how search engine work and what people search for. I’m not saying that we must be an expert but we need to know a little bit in order to optimize our blog and website.
I have put an effort to find the best basic tips for my reader about SEO. You may find these tips everywhere or you might already know about it. However, there are something you may not know about other SEO tricks.
Determine your keyword
As we know, the keyword is a main character to success in SEO war. Firstly, you need to determine what keyword that you will use in your blog. Lets take mine as an example. Although this is my personal blog, I prefer to write about make money online niche and self development niche. So I use a keyword make money online as my primary keyword. You can’t start thinking about search engine optimization without having your keyword first. Once you have decided what is your site niche and chose your keyword then you can plan your next step.
Set your tags
This is what I did. Most of the wordpress themes are not containing tags for search engine optimization. To use tags for search engine optimization you need to add some tags into your theme file. Open you header.php file from your template file and following tags between <head> and </head>.
<meta name=”robots” content=”follow, all” /> Tell Google to follow your site.
<meta name=”language” content=”en” /> Tell Google what language you are using for targeting those language speakers.
<meta name=”Author” content=”The Author” /> tell who is the author of the page.
<meta name=”revisit-after” content=”1 day” /> Ask the search engine robot to come back depending on how often you update your site
<meta name=”distribution” content=”global” /> *
<meta name=”rating” content=”all” /> * These tags will help you to target a specific audience for your website.
Set your permalink
One of the best thing about using wordpress is the built-in SEO setting. Permalink structure is easily to set up in wordpress. By default, wordpress comes with ugly permalink structure. See the screenshot below.
As you can see the default permalink has lot of number and question mark. What you need to do is simply change your default structure to custom structure as stated in the screenshot. This structure is more friendly to search engine.
Use smart keyword and description
I’m not sure the google is still display the description or not when people searching for something. But it is good and necessary to put some keyword and description. Good news, we can set all of these using a wordpress plugin. I recommend you to use All In One SEO Pack wordpress plugin. Install the plugin and activate it via admin control panel then insert your keyword and description.
Build a Sitemap
Install a sitemap wordpress plugin(Google Sitemaps Generator plugin) to build your site sitemap. It makes search engine to understand better your site structure.
Write a good content
As a blogger, marketing is not a king but the content is. This is the most important point to win the SEO war. Although your site is perfect for SEO and the robot can find your site, it is useless and unhelpful if the real content of your site is rubbish.
Build Backlink
A backlink is a link that direct others towards your site. Also known as inbound link. You need to build backlink because it is good for search engine information. How popular and important the backlink is depends on other site owners. Search engine will give more credit to those sites with a good number of quality backlinks. Hence they will consider those sites are more relevant compare to other sites in the results pages. I’m not going to show you how to build backlink because it is in another chapter of mine.

Ping your site !
Do you know wordpress has a tool called Update Service(ping)? This service will automatically ping(send an information) everytime you write a new post. By default wordpress only has 1 list which is http://rpc.pingomatic.com/. Make a big list of your ping service now by adding the list.

Above is the basic step to SEO and to optimize your site especially wordpress site. Eventhough you have done all the steps you still need to promote your blog and site.
This is my formula : Blog + SEO + Content + Promote + Promote + Promote
Without promoting your blog you are zero. How to promote is up to you. You decide..

Great round-up. Thanks to Wordpress it’s not as important nowadays to work with onpage SEO as it were a few years ago. By simple making these changes and writing SEO-optimized content you will gain a lot of visitors through search engines.
When I write search optimized content I mean that you simple change some specific words to rank for a specific term. Not starting to write long keyword-filled texts about nothing simple to rank better.

That’s one of the difficult thing to decide on when running a blog. Should you start by describing everything from the beginning or should you post a bit more advanced posts? On my current blog I try to add some of both so all of my visitors find it useful.

There are some free plugins at MaxBlogPress where you can download plugin that make your title more SEO Friendly.
I use them before and still using them..As you can see, it is only my title I don’t optimize because I rather to put my name as a title because it was my branding strategy.

Great list Een even I may have learned something! When I first started my blog I made the mistake of not setting my permalink and had to find a re direct plugin but it worked out ok.
Point being I shoudl had done mt SEO research before hand.
